Employer Driven Stream
The Employer Driven Stream program has criteria not only for potential workers, but also for employers themselves. It provides for two streams: Skilled Worker Stream (for skilled professionals at NOC levels 0, A and B) and Critical Worker Stream (for professionals at NOC levels C and D).
Minimum criteria for foreign workers under Employer Driven Stream:
- Have legal resident status when working in Canada and a valid work permit
- Be a resident of the Northwest Territories
- You must be a certified professional in your field and meet all of the employer’s criteria
- You must also meet licensing, certification or occupational registration requirements that may apply to employment in the Northwest Territories (if applicable)
- You must prove that you have the funds you will need to cover your integration into the Northwest Territories – this is at least 10,000 CAD for the principal applicant and 2,000 CAD for each family member travelling to Canada with you
- Attach the results of a nationally recognized language examination taken within the past 2 years. Such exams include IELTS, CELPIP in English and TEF in French.
Additional criteria for foreign workers under Skilled Worker Stream:
- Your profession must be at level 0, A or B of the National Classification of Occupations of Canada (NOC)
- You need to complete the training or specialized practice required for a certain position in the chosen specialty
- You must have relevant work experience indicated by the employer in the vacancy or job description
- You must speak English or French at a sufficient level to conduct qualified activities in the chosen profession
Additional criteria for foreign workers under Critical Impact Worker Stream:
- You must have at least 1 year of experience in a Level C or D occupation in the National Occupational Classification of Canada (NOC)
- You must fulfill the requirements for a temporary work permit
- You must have a minimum of Level 4 Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) proficiency in English and/or French for all parts of the test (listening, speaking, writing and reading).
