International Graduate
This system is designed for foreigners who have graduated from a certified Canadian higher education institution and have remained in Canada with a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Additionally, applicants to this program must be employed or have a job offer from an employer in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in the field of study for which they obtained their post-graduate degree when submitting their immigration application.
Candidates under this system must:
- complete at least half of the required curriculum in the country;
- be a graduate of a certified Canadian higher education program (i.e., you must submit a diploma showing completion of your studies);
- have completed at least 2 years of full-time study on a full-time basis. Students who have completed a 1-year post-graduate program or other advanced study program may also be eligible to apply for permanent residency, which requires that they have an existing diploma from a previous institution (this may not be required); a Canadian credential is required);
- have a job offer from an employer in the area for at least 24 months with an option to extend the duration of this document;
- have the experience, qualifications, knowledge and/or accreditation needed to perform your job duties;
- have a Post-Graduation Work Permit, which you then submit with your immigration application. You must have worked for at least six months when you apply;
- provide evidence of your intentions and ability to adapt to the region;
- have the necessary funds to cover all of the necessary expenses for you to settle and for other family members to move to Newfoundland and Labrador;
- have sufficient proficiency in English or French to be able to carry out the tasks of your profession skillfully. NB: There is no minimum requirement for the National Occupational Classification C or D level specializations as to how well you can speak a foreign language;
- provided that you have obtained your degree from a certified institution of higher education not located in Newfoundland and Labrador, you are required to be employed or must have a job offer in the specialty in which you have obtained your degree. It is also possible that the foreign worker may be required to have at least one year of work experience in their field of study before applying for immigration.
